And Then Within

The And Then Within indicator is used when you have systems that have a “setup” entry condition followed by a second entry condition. For example, let’s say you want to find a gap up, but you don’t want to enter the trade until prices have moved above the high of the gap up. These types of systems are created by using the And Then Within operator.

You first enter the setup entry conditions in the main historical testing dialog box in the normal fashion. You then draw a rectangle and insert the And Then Within operator. A dialog box will appear asking you to enter the maximum number of within bars. This is the number of bars Investigator will test to see if the second entry condition has been met. For example, if you enter 5 for the maximum number of within bars, once a gap up has occurred, Investigator will see if prices have risen above the high of the gap up bar for the next five bars. If prices have moved up, you will be notified. If prices have not moved up above the high within 5 bars, Investigator will stop looking for this condition.

Please note that the And Then Within indicator can only be used as an entry condition.
