Your toolbar is the area that appears under Investigator’s main menu. It contains buttons (actually icons, which are small pictures) that you can push to have Investigator do a task, rather than having to select the task’s menu item. You’ll find over time that there are certain menu items that you use more frequently than others. Rather than having to always go through the process of navigating Investigator’s menus to get to a menu item, you can put the menu item’s associated button on the toolbar.
It’s easy to change or re-arrange the icons that appear on your toolbar. Select Configure Toolbar from the Special menu. The Configure the Toolbar dialog box appears.
On the right hand side of the dialog box is a list of all of the buttons that are currently on your toolbar (called Active Buttons). Note that the word Space notes a space on the toolbar between buttons, not a menu item or toolbar option. The buttons that are currently not on your toolbar are listed in the list on the left hand side of the dialog box (called Available Buttons).
To add a button to your toolbar:
Click on the name of the button you want to add on the Available Buttons list (they are listed alphabetically) and then click on the right pointing arrow. The button will be inserted on the toolbar directly under whatever is currently highlighted on the Active Buttons list.
To remove buttons from your toolbar:
Click on the name of the button you want to remove from your Active Buttons list and then click on the left pointing arrow. The button name will move to the Available Buttons list.
To move buttons on your toolbar:
Highlight the button you wish to move on your Active Buttons list. If you want to move the button up, click on the up arrow until the button is in the desired position. If you want to move the button down, click on the down arrow until the button is in the desired position.
To add a space to your toolbar:
Spaces are placed under whatever is currently highlighted on the Active Buttons list. Click on the Active Buttons list item that you want add the space under and click the Space button.
To delete a space from your toolbar:
Click on the Space that you want to remove and then click on the Space button.
Note: If you forget what a toolbar’s button does, position the mouse over the button and a brief reminder will appear.
