Percent retrace allows you to enter a trade only after prices have dropped at least certain percent from a high value or have risen at least a certain percent from a low value.

The calculation is performed as follows:

Assume you are looking a percent retrace off a high value. Investigator will first find the highest high over the past number of bars that you enter. It will then subtract the percent value that you enter from the highest point to obtain the check value. Investigator will then see if any of the bars in the within period that you enter are less than the check value.

If you are looking for a percent off a low value, Investigator will first find the lowest low over the past number of bars that you enter. It will then add the percent value that you enter from the lowest point to obtain the check value. Investigator will then see if any of the bars in the within period that you enter are greater than the check value.
