Typically, trades will be added to the trades list at the end of a system library test; however, you can manually add trades to your trades list. This usually happens when you enter a trade that is not based on one of the systems in your system library. A useful feature of Investigator is that you can later associate a trade on your trades list with a system in your system library so that Investigator will monitor the trade for the exit conditions associated with the system. See the Edit Trades help section for more information on this feature.
Trades can be manually added you your trades list by selecting Add Trade from the Trades menu.
This will bring up the Add File dialog box.
The box on the left hand side shows the directories on your computer that contain your files with quote information. The box on the right hand side shows the individual files by their ticker symbol name. You can view the files that are in a different directory by clicking on that directory name in the left hand box.
To select an individual file to add, you can:
1. Scroll down the file list until you see the file you wish to add. Single click on the file name and then click OK.
2. Scroll down the file list until you see the file you wish to add. Double click on the file name.
3. Click on the Enter Symbol button. The enter symbol dialog box will appear. Enter in the symbol of the chart you wish to add and click OK. This method is especially useful if you have lots of files in a particular directory and you don’t want to have to scroll down a long list to find the particular symbol you want.
If the directories or files you wish to open do not appear in the Open File dialog box, there are two possible causes:
1. You have more than one data type on your computer and you currently have a data type selected that does not have the files you wish. You can fix this by changing data types.
2. You do not have the data type or directory currently entered into your data directory information . You can fix this by changing your data directory information.
You will then receive a message telling you that the trade has been successfully added to your trades list, or you will receive an error message telling you why the trade cannot be added.
