System Library Testing

Investigator makes a trader’s life easier by automating the search for trades and systems. After you have built up a library of systems, you should have Investigator search for these systems after you have downloaded your quotes at the end of the day. All the systems that you have added to your system library will be searched for in the data files which are included in your data directories unless you’ve told Investigator not to use the directory (see the Changing Data Type and Directory Information help section) or not to use the system.

After first searching all of your files for entry conditions, Investigator then searches the files on your trades list for stop and exit conditions. The results of the system library test tells you which trades you should be entering, which stops you should be moving, and which trades you should be exiting.

We strongly recommend being thoroughly familiar with the System Library - Recall, Delete, Use help section before continuing with this section, as the system library test is directly affected by the values you set there.

System library testing can be start in three ways: automatically when the program launches (See the System Library - Recall, Delete, Use help section) or manually by selecting System Library Test from the Systems menu and either Regular or Specific Date from the System Library Test submenu.

If you select the Specific Date menu item, a dialog box will appear asking you which date you wish to run the system library on. This option is useful if you forgot to run the system library test on a certain day, or if you wish to run the system library test on yesterday’s data.

If you select the Regular option, Investigator assumes that you have downloaded today’s quotes and that you want to test today’s date or the last date in the file, depending on your System Library settings (See the System Library - Recall, Delete, Use help section).

System library testing then proceeds as follows:

The system library testing dialog box.

The Review System Library Test List dialog box.

After a system library test run, you can also view the charts that have entry conditions associated with them by using the Review System Library Test Charts feature.
