Viewing / Deleting Relative Strength Values

To view an individual financial instrument’s Relative Strength, open the chart with the financial instrument whose Relative Strength values you wish to view. Then bring up a Relative Strength indicator window by selecting Breadth from the Indicators menu and Relative Strength from the Breadth menu.

To view all of the Relative Strength values for a specific date, select Relative Strength from the Special menu and View / Delete RS Values from the Relative Strength submenu.

If you have more than one Relative Strength database, a dialog box will appear asking you which database you want to view. Click on one and click OK.

Next, a dialog box will appear asking you which date you wish to view or delete. First select a year and then select a date.

If you want to delete a date, click the Delete button. A message box will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. By click Yes, the selected date will be deleted.

If you want to view the date, click OK. The viewing RS values dialog box will appear.

The caption on this dialog box tells you which Relative Strength database and which Relative Strength date you are viewing. Next follows a list of the files in your Relative Strength database, followed by their percent change and their Relative Strength ranking. The files are listed from the highest Relative Strength value to the lowest Relative Strength value.

Since the list can be rather long, it is sometimes difficult to find the Relative Strength value for a particular financial instrument. If you click on the Find button, a dialog box will appear asking you for the symbol of the instrument you wish to find. Enter the ticker symbol and click OK. If the symbol appears on your list, Investigator will find it for you and display it.

Due to limitations in the Windows operating system, in some extreme cases a list is so large the entire list cannot appear all at once in your dialog box. You will notice this if you scroll to the bottom of your list and notice that the Relative Strength values don’t end at 1. To get around this limitation, you can click on the Start List button to start the list at a different value. For example, in most cases, if you start your list at 50, you will typically be able to see the bottom of your list. To do this, click the Start List button. The start RS list dialog box appears. Enter the value you want the list to start at and click OK. The list will now start at this value. If you later want to see the start of the list, click the Start List button, enter 99, and click OK.

If you wish to view some of the trades on the list, highlight the trades by clicking them and then click the See Trade button. The chart(s) will appear with their Relative Strength values shown for the most recent date. If you wish to see the Relative Strength value for a previous date, click on that date and the value will appear.

Finally, you can print the list by clicking on the Print button. A print dialog box will appear asking you to confirm the number of copies, etc. Click OK and the list will print.
